You never know what you’re gonna get with a box of chocolates as I said in an earlier post. The very day I posted about life being Like a Box of Chocolates it truly hit home. It was my 32nd wedding anniversary and I was planning on a nice dinner with my husband, but life had other plans. I have dealt with some health issues for about a year with no real answers. Excessive weight loss without trying, I’m talking in the neighborhood of 35 pounds. And yes I know everyone wants the secret, but it truly is a secret. The doctors don’t know why it’s happening to me.
Surprise, It’s Not a Good One
So that day on my anniversary it was going along like the past several months, managing some bowel issues not thinking much about it. My husband calls to say he will be home early for our dinner date and I jokingly tell him I don’t know if I can make it. I may be tied to the bathroom I say with a chuckle. He chuckles too and tells me that’s okay, if I can’t I can’t.
Within hours it goes from being a joking matter to me lying on the bathroom floor in severe pain. My stomach felt as though someone were stabbing me over and over with no relief. I’ve done natural child-birth more than a couple of times and I will tell you this was right there at the transition phase of giving birth. Ladies, if you’ve given birth you know what I’m talking about! That point right before you’re dilated to 10cm and ready to push you feel as though you can hang from the ceiling by your fingernails. That’s where I was at with no breaks in between. It was rough!
Refusing to go to the hospital emergency room my husband called for backup. Backup was my two oldest daughters. They came and insisted that I was going to the hospital. My choice…a car ride or the rescue squad. I refused my options. Long story short they called the rescue squad and I went to the emergency room that night. That visit lasted a full six days. Days filled with tests, samples, biopsies, antibiotics, and plenty of fluids. Like I said you never know what you’re gonna get!
You Never Know
After all the tests there are still no real answers. A tissue biopsy said Collagenous Colitis. Look it up and see that it’s a fancy way of saying you have inflammation of your intestines. They don’t know what really causes it or what will help it. We just start with some basic medicine for a few weeks and see what happens. Funny thing is though there’s no way of knowing if the medicine is helping or if the inflammation has calmed down on its own. So every day is my crazy box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get!
